It's a pop culture world we are living in and it is even more realized
in today's economy. It seems now is not the time to get "deep" into
music.I read that during the depression people wanted to be "happy"and
not be reminded of the terrible times around them.
The people during the great depression were strong and realistic. The
materialism we are clinging to as we go down the tubes is even more
unrealistic as we see what is happening around us.
Compare our times to the 1930's and it is a sobering thought! The
music meant survival to those people...the music today is just "white
noise"... thankfully the "BLING BLING" culture seems to be on the outs!
It is a good time to take music to another level... it does not have to
be revolutionary... it can be something that harkens back to the past.
I am thinking that
It is a great time to think of alternative ways to express love of music..particuraly jazz. Jazz is a music that has always struggled for acceptance n The USA and now is a risky time for the music. The economy is tough on music in the way we listen to it.The way we respect the music as well.Pop is the flavor and easy listening habits are the norm.
We do not wish to be challenged by music in difficult times. I think this is the exact time to be challenged by music and take it to another “level”! Imagine a jazz band. Lets say a quartet. They are playing straight up JAZZ, and they are really playing hot! You see the musicans really getting into the music you are stimulated by the sounds you are listening to. The music is uplifiting but your visual senses are not being stimulated. It’s a common occurance in JAZZ. Jazz is a music to listen to… not really visually entertainging. Jazz needs visual direction at this point in music.

Now is the time to put visuals into JAZZ. The music is calling out to be utilized with visual cues. Dancers using jazz in a way to show self expression… jazz as a medium or “backdrop” to create artwork for the audience to enjoy. I am in the process of painting “Live” while jazz bands create music. It is a special thing to see how the musicans play off my creative expression as I use their music toinspire me to create art!
that's kool, long live the jazz
