This is a very interesting question... I posted this as question and answer website last week and I am compiling the results. These are some of the answers I received!
QUESTION:
From my friends I am told that the Jewish people were the most
important group for helping jazz music to stay alive. Is this true?
1.lol... I do know many jewish people that do play jazz but for the most
part it's all walks of life. I see more african americans than jews in
jazz
I'm a pro sound engineer/producer working in the industry .
but it is a very good question . I do see a pro dominate of jewish people working in the film and television industries though .
Hope this helped.
2.No, that's just silly, It's like saying that since Gene Simmons is Jewish, KISS saved Arena Rock.
3.Wynton Marsalis saved jazz!
4.The Jazz Age was known for its music, dance and lifestyle, and it was also when the children of Jewish immigrants became a significant presence in NYC. Many found expression of their feelings about their Jewish and American cultures through music, especially Jazz. I think Jews and Jazz will always be intertwined.
I also think if the only insightful thing you have to say about a question is that it’s silly, maybe you shouldn't bother answering it.
5.
Michael Brecker, Mike Stern, Bob Berg ,these tallented musicians helped to save jazz by practicing
so much and raising the level higher.Too bad that both saxplayers dead and Kenny G still giging his ass off....so at this point I have to say that "practice "saves jazz
